What is the difference between a Podiatrist and a Chiropodist?
There is no difference between a Chiropodist and a Podiatrist. The term Chiropodist is traditionally used in the UK, but the term Podiatrist is recognised and used more internationally. Podiatry and Chiropody are both protected terms so that only practioners registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) can refer to themselves as either a Chiropodist or Podiatrist.
What are Biomechanical Assessments?
A biomechanical assessment allows us as Podiatrists to analyse your Gait and movement. We will observe your feet, lower limbs and the rest of your body while standing, sitting and walking to check for deviations that can lead to pain in the feet, knees, hip, back and neck.
What happens at my first visit?
At your first visit we will take a full medical history and complete assessment before your treatment. If you are taking any medication please bring a copy of your latest prescription with you. This will help us to assess, diagnose and treat your individual needs.
Are the services of a Podiatrist covered by my health insurance?
Most services performed by a Podiatrist are covered under your health insurance. There are some exceptions which are usually listed in your insurance policy, at the end under exceptions.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No you do not, unless you are planning to cover costs via a private health insurance like BUPA where you do need a consultant referral to us.
How many treatments do I need?
This completely depends on your assessment and management which can be discussed over the phone or on the appointment. It can vary from a single treatment to three or more.
